When you’re ready to take your sequencing up a notch, use layer settings to kick it up a notch!

If you’ve been using xLights for a while and have experience with how it works and with already creating amazing lighting shows, you might be wondering what you can do next to make your show EVEN better!

These tips are for when you have been using sequencing for a while and are ready to take things to the next level and really add some amazing detail to your light show to get a little more out of what you are currently using.

Once you have a handle on sequencing, these tips can really save you a lot of time as well as add an extra layer of depth and really make things a lot more interesting.

Layer Settings

Under the layer settings option there are a couple parts that can be really interesting and do a good bit for your show.

Whether you are using the buffer or not, you have the ability to set a render style which allows you within the layer to decide how it renders per model, per preview, etc.

This enables you to be able to use one effect for many models rather than to have to make your group large and copy over multiple times for your multiple models. Definitely a time saver!

Features

One really cool feature is that you have the ability for your camera to be 2D or 3D depending on if you have indeed decided to use the 3D.

Transformation

Another feature you have access to is the transformation feature. The transformation feature allows you to literally spin the effects around that you are using. This means that if you have your current effect moving up and down, you can switch it easily to be able to move side to side instead.

In some cases you can actually do this within the effect but with some effects you are not able to and so this feature certainly comes in handy.

Blur

In Layer Settings you have access to a blur feature to use which can soften any hard edges that you have within the lighting show. This can save you a lot of time and really come in handy since you can simply blur your effect rather than having to search through tons of different effects looking for a way to soften your lights. The blur effect will create nice, soft edges with ease.

Roto-Zoom

Roto-zoom is another great feature that you can explore using. It can be a bit of a wild looking effect, and some people like it while others don’t but it all comes down to personal preference and can be a fun option to play with! There is never any harm in trying out something new!

Closing

The Layer Settings option within xLights can be a really fun and beneficial feature to use to tweak deatils of your show once you are ready to start playing around a bit more in the advances realm. It offers the fantastic ability to improve your show and you will get to use a bit more detailed and personalized effects than you would if you weren’t using it.

Layered settings really gives you some cool access to be able to do some incredibly interesting things with your show and is a ton of fun to experiment with.
